I believe that working in higher education is a privilege, and with that privilege comes the responsibility to try and extend the impact that education can bring beyond the confines of the university.

Here are a few of the projects that I have been involved in over the years. Though challenging, they have been immensely satisfying, not the least part because of the opportunities they brought for working alongside such a bright, ambitious and forward thinking cadre of Wesleyan students.

  • The Wesleyan College in Prison Initiative; teaching science to prison inmates
  • Teaching in CT High Schools; working to enhance the teaching of genetics and molecular biology in high school and middle school
  • MHS Science Fair Initiative; bringing extracurricular science to the local high school
  • The Kibera School for Girls; teaching young girls in Kibera, Kenya
  • The Water School; a little water science, a lot of common sense
